Ms.Matchstick and the egg theory

The phone kept ringing and Ms.Matchsticks was already furious.

Why! Why do so many people keep calling. But, she had to take the call. After all, it might just be an important one.

Ms.Matchsticks slowly dragged herself from under her blanket and saw a familiar name ringing on the phone. it's been ages she had spoken to Damini.

" Hi! Damini"....Ms.Matchstick almost said it too loud. And all she could hear back is a frantic female screaming about an abortion.

So, Ms.Matchstick slowed down and tried listening carefully and asked, 'Sweetie? Do you want me to come over?" and Damini yelled out; ' God! Yes! Please.".

Ms.Matchstick arrived at Ballygunge Phari in the next forty five minutes. She had to. Because, no chica should be left to deal with something like this alone. Especially, when the penis holder is no where to be found.

Oh poor Damini. Lost and frantic, trying to wrap her head around as to how did she ever end up with a pregnancy she did not need form a man she really did not want anymore. But, does any of this remove the responsibility off the penis holder?

But, all of that can be put to rest. The first thing she needed to find for Damini was abortion facilities near me on her Google Maps.

They both pooled their powers and made calls and finally found a very good doctor who was willing to perform the abortion, it had to be done as soon as possible, Damini was already a month over it.

Ms.Matchstick felt so helpless looking through the broken pieces of Damini having to decide to go ahead with it. Pro-choice never meant lack of compassion. It just means as a girl, you have the full right over your body.

But, she knew her chica was strong. Strong enough to know that this is the right thing to do. Even abortion pills is not an option anymore. She had to go through the medical procedure. In no time, two days went by with these two girls trying to glue one of their lives back together.

The day arrived and Ms.Matchsticks held Damini's hand tightly and walked through the hospital door. And reassured her that, no matter what Damini is not alone. She never was.

The doctor came and took Damini in and informed Ms.Matchstick it will take a while. But, that's fine as long as Damini is.

While waiting for Damini to recuperate, Ms.Matchstick thought of the egg theory by George Carlin. When it is a chicken it is an omelette and when its a human, it is an abortion. But, how much is society really worried about the alive, if they only worried about the alive as they did of the fetus.

Maybe poverty could be fixed. maybe people would have more rights. Maybe just maybe, penis holders would be held accountable for the responsibility they share.

But, the next two weeks scarred Ms.Matchsticks, seeing Damini slowly breaking down mentally, those awful shakes, anxiety, depression. All of those are hard. All of those changes people.

Grief changes people.

It changed Ms.Matchsticks a little too.

It reminded her of all the let downs, all those nights she worried about herself, those bruises, those broken bones, dislocated jaw. All of those came flashing back.
